The Promac HSM Skid Steer Drum Mulcher is a high end mulcher attachment manufactured on Vancouver Island, and holds its own against any comparable mulcher in the industry. Suitable for skid steers from 70-120 hp and hydraulic flow of 35-45 GPM @ 4000 psi, it makes quick work of whatever brush and trees that end up in the way of the 60" wide, 17" diameter drum and cutter teeth. The drum is powered by a 107cc variable torque bent axis piston motor, and utilizes a durable cogged drive belt to eliminate slippage. The attachment rides smoothly on replaceable bolt on AR400 skid shoes. The drum also includes dust seals that keep dust and dirt out of the machine, ensuring it will run smooth for years.
The frame is made of fully welded high strength steel and a boxed in design, which provides better rigidity than other open designs. This allows the HSM to stay under 2,500 lbs and maintain great machine stability when operating. The frame is also very low profile, resulting in outstanding operator visibility and control, and the smooth, natural, lines of the attachment make it hard to get hung up on anything. The leading edge of the attachment, where it makes contact with the ground, has a flat profile that allows 1" of controlled ground contact with minimal tilt. This makes it easy to ensure you leave a nice, well mulched finish without digging into the ground and risking damaging the cutter teeth. This also limits material from ejecting under the machine during back dragging since the chain bar and frame still impede the material at this angle.
A replaceable AR400 wear liner protects the welded in liner. This eliminates the need to ever replace the welded liner, which can otherwise wear quickly in sandy conditions and cost you a lot in dollars and downtime. A bolt in rear anvil (see photo #7) provides additional durability. The anvil is crucial to prevent too large of material in between the liner and the drum, which could reduce the speed of the drum or even cause jamming. The anvil is made up of 12" sections to allow selective replacement where it is the most worn. These features give the HSM outstanding durability and longevity.
The drum itself has a Chip Production Rotor, also known as a "bite limiter", that makes sure you don't bite off more than you can chew, and also controls discharge particle size. The Drum also features welded steel wire cutters that prevent wire from winding on the drum shaft and damaging the bearing seals. The Cutter Teeth are easy to sharpen and reversible, lasting on average 40 hours per side or more (assuming you avoid rocks).
Promac has an option for Double Carbide Cutter Teeth. The Carbide Teeth hold up much longer (up to 500 hrs vs. 40-100 hrs for chipper teeth), especially in rocky conditions, but do not cut as efficiently and cannot be sharpened. Since rocks are more likely to come in contact with the outside edges of the drum, we recommend purchasing carbide teeth on the outside 4 rows of the drum, and leaving the more efficient chipper teeth in the center, directly in front of the operator. This configuration allows for selective use of the chipper teeth (use the center of the drum to mulch a larger tree). Inquire for different tooth combination options.
