What is a Breaker Style Post Driver Attachment?

"Breaker Style" refers to the internal components of the PDX-750 featuring the same concrete breaking technology found in heavy-duty jackhammers and concrete breaker attachments. This technology joins a tough and reliable powercell together with a thick and stable housing, delivering superior post driving speed, impulse force, and power.

.

Eterra Post Drivers manufactured in the USA

.

Ideal for the fence contractor who runs his machine and attachment day-in and day-out, the breaker style design of the PDX-750 features thick steel, premium welds, and greatly reduces harmful internal vibration, meaning there's no fear of the attachment coming loose or failing during operation. The powercell is nitrogen-charged, American-Made, and delivers consistent and repeatable post driving power you can rely on. Optimal for Skid Steers and Compact Track Loaders with 13-21 GPM of hydraulic flow, with optimal operating pressure between 1,400 and 1,700 PSI, the Breaker Style Technology of the PDX-750 can deliver 750 ft. lbs. of impulse force per stroke, with impact energy of 450 ft. lbs. per stroke.

Another benefit of the Breaker Style Post Driver is easy maintenance. The tool simply needs to be greased daily and checked regularly for any loose bolts that may need tightening. Other than that, keeping your post driver in peak working order is simple, and no-nonsense. For serious fence contractors who run their attachment year-round, 8 hours a day, we recommend checking the gas charge annually. When the time comes to recharge your tool, it's simple and easy as well, keeping you operational and profitable with performance you can count on.

.

Tilt Functionality with your Skid Steer Post Driver

Fence posts aren't always installed on level and even ground. In fact, most aren't. For operators who often encounter variable terrain when running their Post Driver Attachment, the PDX-750 comes available with integrated tilt functionality. Add Tilt to your PDX-750 to experience 15 degrees of angle side-to-side, a wide range of operation that allows for maximum precision and adjustment in the most demanding of conditions.

.

The tilting mechanism has been designed by Eterra to be as compact as possible, this keeps the housing and the driving tool of the post driver close to the machine, which allows for maximum down-pressure to be applied at the time of post installation. By taking full advantage of the weight and downforce of your loader, you'll drive posts faster and more efficiently, something you don't have to sacrifice when adding tilt thanks to the clean design from Eterra.

.

Driver Head Detail: Cupped

As mentioned above, the PDX-750 can be selected with a few different driver head options. Operators can also select to have both driver head options included with their purchase. The Cupped Driver Head option couples with the PDX to offer the more traditional post driving operation. The driver head is open and exposed from the housing and the driver, and is a simple point-and-shoot type head. The operator positions the cupped head over the fence post, and gets to pounding. The cupped design of the head keeps the post safe and secure while driving and is ideal for standard wood posts of various sizes. The cupped head is 9" in diameter, meaning it can accept up to an 8" post.

The simple bolt pattern and usability of this post driver is what makes it such a strong contender in the marketplace, and it's very simple and easy to swap out your driver heads with the simple use of an internal pin. Drop out your existing cupped head to swap in the flat head, bolt on the post guide system (detailed below), and you're operational with a whole new driving set-up. The same goes for the 3 foot breaker tool (also detailed below), which can be swapped in with similar ease.

.

Post Driver Head Swap and Concrete Breaker Pin

.

All PDX-750 driver heads are manufactured from 4140 heat-treated American-Made steel. Eterra insists on this level of quality to ensure reliable performance for machine operators who demand a lot out of their post drivers. With these exceptional driver heads, there's no fear of driver head cracking or failure. Eterra has heard too many stories from professionals who load up for a job, get a machine, an attachment and a crew out to a remote location to install an extensive post, only to have their post driver attachment break or fail, costing untold man hours and wasted time, productivity and money. Put these 4140 driver heads to the test and we know you won't be disappointed.

.

Driver Head Detail: Flat with Post Head Guide System

The Flat Driver Head option includes a bolt-on housing which acts as the Eterra Post Head Guide System. This configuration is great for increased versatility in your post driving operations. This configuration is ideal for steel posts, smaller railway ties (in proper ground conditions), as well as smaller t-posts. The Flat Head and Post Head Guide System comes standard with 4 different sized eyelets, which can be changed out to match the size of the posts you're pounding and provide exceptional precision and control. Many customers take the smallest eyelet (2.5") and laser cut the circular hole into a custom shape. This is an excellent option for fencing professionals who work with the same type post on a consistent basis and want to optimize their driving operation for maximum speed and efficiency.

.

The Flat Driver Head and Post Head Guide System comes with the following eyelet sizes and configurations:

  • 8.5" Eyelet // Up to 8" posts
  • 6.5" Eyelet // Up to 6" posts
  • 4.5" Eyelet // Up to 4" posts
  • 2.5" Eyelet // Up to 2" posts, also great for steel T-posts

.

The 5-Foot Concrete Breaker Tool

The same simple and convenient single pin design that allows for the swapping of driver heads also applies to the avalable 5-Foot Concrete Breaker Tool for you PDX-750. Drop the driving head out of your housing and quickly replace it with this heavy-duty tool. Take "Breaker Style Post Driver" to it's rightful place, and turn your post driver into a concrete breaker in no time. This tool comes in extremely handy for operations that are driving posts in heavy-packed clay or rocky soil. It's also common to encounter old concrete footings or even foundational blocks, and this tool will make quick work of those impediments, making your next round of post driving fast and effective, without the need to pause your progress and deal with complications.

.

In extreme applications, a productive method is to drive down your fence line, and pre-punch all of the post holes. The same quick, one pin swap will allow the post driver head to be re-installed, and then you're on your way, installing plum and secure posts into unobstructed pilot holes , no matter the conditions. The Eterra 5-Foot Concrete Breaker tool is a strong and reliable 60" breaker spike, weighing in at 125 pounds.

.

The Powercell

The powercell of the PDX-750 is notable in that it's simple, reliable and easy to maintain. Eterra is committed to quility when it comes to their attachment, and so all PDX-750 powercells are manufactured either in the United States or Europe, providing a quality of manufacturing you can count on. With the fewest moving parts of any powercell available, the PDX-750's powercell stays secure and reliable, even under heavy workloads. When the need for parts do arise, all parts can be sourced in the USA. No complicated searching, ordering and waiting for unreliable support and shipping from a company outside of North America.

.

Eterra PDX-750 Powecell

.

The powecell features a driver system on the output side of the cell, and is independent from the housing itself. This means the driving piston, the tool, and the gas charge can be found within the housing of the post driver, but the powecell remains an independent part of the attachment, capable of being removed and serviced without disrupting the internals of the post driver housing.

.

Modular Post Driver System: Excavator Compatible

The main housing of the PDX-750 is bolted to the standard universal skid steer plate with a simple and strong bolt-pattern. This means it's quick and easy to unbolt the housing from your skid steer plate, and re-mount to an excavator coupler, with almost no fuss or additional parts needed. You'll need the coupler for your excavator, and potentially a hose extension, but that's the extent of what it takes to take advantage of this modular system. For owners of both skid steer loaders and compact excavators, this allows you to buy one post driver attachment, and swap it back and forth depending on your needs.

.

.

Eterra and Skid Steer Solutions offers excavator couplers for all major machines. This includes the Bobcat Exchange Coupler, Caterpillar CR304.5, John Deere 35D, John Deere 50D, Kubota KX121 and Kubota KX091. We can also offer custom coupler manufacturing if desired. Simply submit a request and we will provide you with a coupler diagram that spells out how to complete a few simple measurements on your machine. Once we have this information, it doesn't take but a few business days to get your Post Driver outfitted with the perfect coupling option for your machine. If you're not interested in skid steer operation, be sure to check out the stand-alone PDX-750 Post Driver for Mini and Compact Excavators.

New Models Coming Soon: E-Series and PDX-1250

Continuing the evolution of their post driver catalog, Eterra is set to release two new models in the late summer/early fall of 2018. Responding to customer demand, Eterra will be offering a new, economy model, deemed the E-Series; as well as a larger and more powerful PDX-1250, complete with a massive housing, and greater impulse force than the flagship PDX-750. Both models are currently in the prototype and testing phase, but should be available for sale very soon.

.

.

The E-Series model is a simple, straight-forward and no-nonsense offering for the machine operator looking to pound posts into the ground effectively without any additional bells and whistles. When comparing the E-Series to the more fully-featured models, you'll notice the E-Series has an open driver cell casing. This streamlined and simple design is a much less costly method for attaching the driver mechanism to the skid steer plate, with those material and cost savings being passed on to the customer. Fencing professionals and fence contractors may want to consider the PDX-750 or the up-coming PDX-1250 for continuous, daily operation, but for ranch owners, home-owners, general contractors and other operators who are looking to install fence posts, the E-Series will be a cost-effective option that doesn't skimp on performance.

The PDX-1250 is loaded with the same groundbreaking technology and design found in the PDX-750, all packed in a larger, more heavy-duty housing, with increased impulse force and driving power. The PDX-1250 will come in handy for the fencing professional who deals with very rocky and difficult ground conditions. It will also perform for the pro who is looking to pound in much wider and heavier posts, such as 8" wood and steel posts, all the way up to railway ties.

.

Coming Soon: Grapple Feature

In addition to the two new models that will be available, Eterra is also in the final stages of testing and perfecting a new feature that will be an available add-on for both the PDX-750 and PDX-1250 models: the Skid Steer Post Driver Integrated Grapple Attachment. As if tilt functionality, multiple driver heads, and a concrete breaker tool weren't enough customizable features, the new integrated post driver grapple will allow users a full suite of functionality for transporting, setting and pounding fence posts, now as a complete one-man operation.

.

Eterra Post Driver with Grapple Attachment

.

The Eterra Post Driver Grapple is the largest and most-heavy duty on the market today, and a true one-of-a-kind. Bundle up a large collection of posts, or even railway ties, and move the posts out into the jobsite where they will be needed. The stronger design and larger opening of this grapple means you can move a larger volume of material. Once placed in the work area, the grapple is technical and precise enough to enclose over a single wood post if needed, capable of utilizing the power and downforce of your machine to place the post and get it started into the ground. You can then lift the post driver attachment and get to post pounding, all as a singular, one-man operation. The grapple can also be used to pull out and remove old posts and other impediments that need to be removed to make way for the new fence you're installing.
