The back plates we use for these forks are heavy plate that has been plasma cut for visibility while still maintaining strength. The fork carrier is a CNC single bar cut with the locking grooves for the fork tines. We use lever locks only because they work best in dirty, nasty conditions without you worrying about whacking your knuckles every time you try to move your fork position. The forks are forged and heat treated to be strong but not brittle. There are a lot of forks around where this attention to detail does not exist. These forks are dangerous because they could just break at any time.
We only offer 48" forks as we have to keep our volumes up just to keep the price where it is. They are rated to 5500 lbs. You should never use a fork rated less than this if you do more than just moving pallets, even if you save a few dollars. They will just not hold up to the off road abuse that skid steer loaders go through. The paint and finish is exceptional. You will be very pleased.
There is a lot of junk out there being passed off as equivalent to our attachment. The first question to ask is the weight. We are generally 50 - 100 lbs. heavier than anyone else. We have seen one manufacturer even copy our backing plate design. They do not use a solid top rail, but instead they use a piece of angle iron which cannot hold up in the long term. It is not easy to see this difference online so make sure you are getting what you paid for or they just won't last.
